Torrent of Water From Alaska Glacier Floods Juneau
The Mendenhall River in Alaska's state capital was overflowing with runoff from the Mendenhall Glacier over the weekend.

Residents of Alaska's capital Juneau were warned on Monday not to approach the Mendenhall River, after a weekend flood caused by a glacier eroded the riverbanks and destroyed two buildings. Local officials declared an emergency.
The Mendenhall River flooded on Saturday due to water released from Suicide Basin, an ice-covered depression located near the Mendenhall Glacier (about 13 miles away).
