Texas Lawmakers Pass Measure Preventing Treatment for Transgender Youth

AUSTIN (Texas)--The second largest state in the nation is poised to ban gender-affirming treatment for transgender children, following a vote taken by Texas legislators on Friday. This puts Texas among a number of Republican-led States that have enacted such bans.
The Texas law, like most similar laws, prohibits physicians from giving minors hormones, medications, or surgery that helps them transition to a new gender. The law applies when the goal of care is to 'affirm the child’s perception of their sex, if this perception is inconsistent with their biological sex.
