Uber is facing a significant fine of 290 million euros (approximately $324 million) from a Dutch agency over a breach of European Union data privacy regulations. The Dutch Data Protection Authority found that Uber transferred sensitive information about its drivers in Europe to the United States without adequate protection measures. The data included personal details, account information, taxi licenses, photos, identification documents, and even criminal and medical data. Uber intends to appeal the ruling, asserting that its cross-border data transfer process has always complied with European regulations. The company will not be required to pay the fine until the completion of its appeal, which may take up to four years.
