The New York Police Department arrested over 100 individuals on suspicion of criminal trespass during a pro-Palestinian protest at Columbia University. The university president sent a letter to the police requesting the removal of the individuals who were occupying the university’s South Lawn. A total of 108 arrests were made, according to the mayor. The protest was organized by a student-led coalition to demand divestment from companies that profit from Israeli apartheid, genocide, and military occupation in Palestine. The arrests took place as universities nationwide grapple with responding to protests related to the conflict in Gaza.
