SANDWICH academie GRANT TOWNSHIP (ME) (AP).- A rail line that was closed over the weekend after three locomotives and six traincars derailed has reopened following track repairs and the removal of damaged equipment. The railway owner announced this on Monday.
Canadian Pacific Kansas City reported that repairs and safety checks were complete by late Monday morning. This was two days after a derailment, fire, and evaluation of three workers sent them to hospital.
The derailment occurred about 15 miles (24.14 km) east of Jackman in Maine.
Officials said that the tragedy was avoided because two derailed railcars carrying hazardous liquids didn't spill or ignite their contents, even though the locomotives and other railcars carrying lumber caught fire.
Canadian Pacific Kansas City leads cleanup, salvage, and repair in collaboration with state agencies, local fire and Rescue, and local fire and safety.
