Musician, writer, director, activist -- those are just some of the hats Boots Riley wears.
Now add speaker to that list. He will be in Fayetteville from 6 to 8 p.m. March 13 for Innovation Speakers: An Evening with Boots Riley at the Fayetteville Public Library.
Riley is well-known for his use of dystopian science fiction as a way to explore issues such as income inequality and social classes. He will discuss his news series "I'm A Virgo", an absurdist comedy about a Black man 13 feet tall who lives in Oakland, Calif. Jharrel Jerome stars alongside Walton Goggins and Mike Epps. Carmen Ejogo is also featured. Allius Barnes will be performing a tune by the ukulele-loving Tuneyards. Riley's directorial debut, "Sorry To Bother You," which stars Tessa Thompson and Steven Yeun, is also set at Oakland, Calif. It is about a telemarketer who discovers an extraordinary key.
Riley is also the founder and lead singer of The Coup and Street Sweeper Social Club with Tom Morello. He is the author and co-author of the highly acclaimed essay collection, "Tell Homeland Security - We Are the Bomb."
