Foundation for former Pitt standout and current Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin formally announced
As he recovers from a cardiac arrest suffered during a game, Damar Hamlin and his family are navigating how to best use the money donated to him.

What started as a nearly tragic event has turned into something that could, potentially, help lots and lots of people. After getting hit in the chest, Hamilton collapsed on the field and received CPR from training staff. He was taken to the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest, but after a week, it appears Hamlin is on the road to recovery. People from all over the world found a GoFundMe campaign he started a few years ago to help raise money for a local toy drive. What was initially a plea for $2,500 quickly exploded. As of Jan. 9, more than 240,000 donors had given more than $8.6 million. However, with the backing of The Giving Back Fund, the charitable efforts are now in full tax compliance. "We remain humbled by the prayers and good wishes of so many, which have helped to sustain us as he continues to heal."
