Billionaire Ken Griffin donates $8M to West Palm Beach science museum

The capital campaign to expand the museum, which is a nonprofit organization, has raised $85 million. "Just one year ago we launched a significant campaign for Science Center. We are confident in expanding our original plans, with a new goal at $85 million," said Lew Crampton (chair of museum's board). Ken Griffin's historic commitment to STEM education, including mastering cloud computing and data science, will help America compete in global markets. This is a reflection of the vision of the board and other supporters for the Cox Science Center. Griffin moved Citadel from Chicago to Miami recently. Griffin stated that students develop an interest in science when they engage with the natural environment. This excitement will continue to drive scientific progress for many decades. Construction will be completed in 2026. The CSCA is expected to break ground in the spring of 2023. 'Ken Griffin's decision to move Citadel from South Florida and to invest in STEM education are indicative of the influx in new residents in our area and the need to have a state of the art science center for our community has increased exponentially.' Kate Arrizza is the president and CEO at the CSCA. The campaign goal was increased to allow us to increase our attendance to nearly 1,000,000 guests each year.
